A Poem for Sarah and Andrea

Like most poets, I get inspired to write poems from all kinds sources. One such time was thinking about a personal struggle I was battling through while listening to the excellent and informative podcast, Gaslit Nation, hosted by Sarah Kendzior and Andrea Chalupa. I realized that the rhetoric they were using regarding combatting the growing autocracies around the world was well applied to the personal fight to combat the insidious predatorial malignant narcissism in my community. So, I started writing. I had some little notebooks to fill and my trusty fountain pen, and I wrote this poem, way back in 2018. But--as often happens--it works well for this current time period, struggling to find a way through the global Covid 19 pandemic. This one counts for my revising a poem a day. One down, 13 more to catch up with. (I'll update my overall progress in the next post.)

The ladies of Gaslit have an action guide to preserving and protecting democracy. Rule number ten of the action guide is: Make Art. So, Sarah and Andrea, here is the art I made while listening to you. Thank you for the inspiration, for this and so much else you do.

The Maximalist
