Did I mention I love my little city? This place of Providence that I've called home for 14 months is pretty darn spectacular, events-wise. (Spectacularly corrupt, local policiticians-wise--but that's another story.)

This weekend was particularly actively staycationesque for me. I was out Saturday, Sunday and Monday doing something interesting.  Pronk, the name given to the Providence version of the Honk Fest that orginated in Somerville, Mass, was this past Monday.

Also this weekend, on the west side of town in Federal Hill was the Columbus Day Festival. This Italian neighborhood takes it as a time to celebrate Italian heritage. While there are justified exceptions to the veneration of Columbus, I just focus on the street fair that spans several blocks and is mere steps from my front door.

From the second line bands, complete with some Mardi Gras Indians

It definitely felt more like I was visiting my mom down in New Orleans, rather than staying in beautiful New England for the mid-October weekend.

PRONK is very very much like one of the more quirky of Mardi Gras parades, like St Anne's or Chewbacchas. (Google these parades; then go to them for fun some day, because it is worth it!)

Part of me couldn't help but feel a little bad for the cars stuck on the street as a massive parade came by...Hahaha. That has happened to my mom in New Orleans, too.

While this year's event has come and gone, if you missed it, make a point to join up next year. It's pretty great, and free to attend.
