Roslindale Day Parade, a Boston Neighborhood Celebration - Including 95 Years in the Area for My Family!
Every early Fall, the Roslindale neighborhood of Boston has a parade celebrating our section of town. Marching bands from all over Massachusetts come to perform in the parade. The armed forced and different police groups are represented. The library has a float, as does Dunkin Donuts (pictured above.) The Franklin Park Zoo is represented. Locals schools and groups of youth march as well as politicians. And there's TONS of dance crews. Every group from our diverse neighborhood is represented.
Roslindale - a Brief Personal and Municipal History
In 1921, after marrying pretty late in life for a couple of the time, my great-grandparents moved to Roslindale, a neighborhood of Boston. Since then, someone in my family has lived here for the last 95 years. That lone someone, today, is me! And I'm so glad I do. This is a GREAT place.
The neighborhood has gone through so many changes from its inception in the late 1800s. It got its name, Roslindale -- the only Roslindale in the world -- because there was a large Scottish population that lived there, which is what brought my great-grandparents from Edinburgh and Glasgow there. "Roslin-" comes from the now-famous chapel that's featured at the end of "The DaVinci Code." The "-dale" come from the fact that the town center is situated in a dale of the two highest points in Boston, Bellevue and Peters Hill.
