"The 'Noka" - This was a restaurant and inn in Orono, ME that served beer out of a glass boot. They had the best honey biscuits and seafood and everything lovely. They gave you a million little courses before you got your huge meal. The cook, Helen, loved when my family came up to visit from Boston and took me out to dinner there, because my dad was a hearty and grateful eater. He would propose to the elderly jovial pleasantly plump lady. Nathan was the owner. He was a charming kind of grump. They had socials in the function room and the place was packed during graduation. When Nathan passed away, they closed this long held beloved little institution down, sadly. Long live the Noka!
