The first week of the highly popular free course on Modern and Contemporary Poetry offerred by Al Fireis has begun. So far, I have watched a video of the professor and the TA discuss the possibilities (zing!) of the meaning and purpose of words in Emily Dickinson's "I Dwell in Possibilities".
I really hate the silly quizzes! It said I was wrong for picking "comma" as a possible answer, but a comma DOES make sense if, as discussed int eh video, the dash before "This" is a colon. For Occupation: This,
The spreading wide...
So, I'm not thinking of it as a list, as it said I was thinking of it, I'm thinking of it as a parenthical element. I should probably post this in a discussion forum somewhere...
Anyway, it's interesting to be thinking about things in an academic-y (official term) way, instead of just a insular, personal way.
I do feel the limits of online as opposed to in person course immediately though. There's much to be added and said in the discussion but I'm not doing it because it's weird when it's not in real time.
More as I feel like it...
