This summer the plan is to do a literary tour of Massachusetts towards the end of July. Here's the tentative agenda:
-Day 1-
** Head first thing in the morning to Amherst to make to Emily Dickinson's house and museum in Amherst for morning
** Early afternoon in Amherst/North Hampton then on the road to
** Lowell (pun! zing!) for a visit with Jack Kerouac then head to
** Concord for a picnic dinner at Walden Pond and a visit to the Alcott and Emerson homes and other sites
Then home to sleep for
-Day 2-
** Forest Hills Cemetery in the morning to visit edward estlin, the train & head to
** Boston Common and Public Garden for all sorts of things from Robert McCloskey to Robert Lowell and of course John Wieners. Then to North Station to catch the commuter rail to
** Gloucester for the late afternoon to romp around and then
** Salem for dinner and witch-hunting then hom
-Day 3-
** Cambridge to Mt Auburn Cemetery, Harvard, stuff like that then
** the MFA or ISG
Florine should be coming from Buffalo and we shall Thelma and Louise our way through the high and low ways of Mass but it will not end with us going off a cliff or anything like that. Probably end with a long nap since that's a lot of traveling.
