Emily by Michael Bedard and Barbara Cooney

On display at the lib, for Poetry Month, I found "Emily" an illustrated children's book about Emily Dickinson by Michael Bedard with illustrations from Barbara Cooney.

It's a sweet little book, and, I think I can say this without spoiling the surprise, since she's not into reading blogs, I have purchased one for my friend Florine Melnyk (BUY HER BOOK), whose birthday is today.

The story is a fictionalized tale of a child who lives in the same neighborhood as Emily Dickinson, and becomes friends with her. Emily's red hair and white dress are included...and the tale of the agoraphobe, called "The Myth" by her neighbors, is the main thing of the book, along with the special friendship.
