The title, The Artist’s Reality, presents two fundamental facets of art. First, the artist in every cultural epoch depicts reality as it is understood at that time and place. Second, the plastic means of forms which move in space are the artist’s means for giving shape to that perception. This takes place through Rothko’s category of the ‘myth’, the given cultural allegory that encapsulates notions of reality as a generalisation, unifying them.
