Repost: My First Published Poem

Danielle has dug through the archives, between feeding and changing Hunter, and found our fourth grade book of poetry from lovely Mrs. Ward’s lovely class.

So, here is my first published poem, Fulton School Press, 1988. I was one of two students who didn’t rhyme. Tim M. just wrote a story and put line breaks in, but I truly had a free verse (as they say) poem. Ah-hem:
The Sea

Down by the sea,
Near the big boulders,
A shell or two
Are under the rock.
What they are
I don’t know.
Maybe they’re clam shells,
Maybe they’re mussel shells.
What they are,
I don’t know.
All I know,
Is that
They must be beautiful.
